Over the last several months and even before the election cycle, many companies are confused about how to react to the new administration. This has caused many to delay the expected growth plans they may have had in place. For a recruiter, this has meant that some clients have been playing the waiting game on whether or not to hire. With the latest changes in the Department of Education, USAID, and what looks like hundreds of other government entities, grants or other reduced or diminished this only exacerbates the situation. It’s gonna be a tough few years, although, I see that long term benefits are possible. We realize now that we need to be more active in our approach with blogs, Instagram, FB and other postings so that is what I am doing now. Robert Hess can find talent for nearly any open role you have available on your team. Our latest efforts are focused talking about what we do…and sometimes politics. Let’s hope that things level out and hiring increases again.
Side Bar: It appears that a quite a few people on the left side of the political spectrum are saying things “could” happen. They “could” lose their grant they’ve been getting for 12 years to attend college. Elon Musk “could” share all of our IRS information to Russia. Elon Musk “could” be a Nazi. We “could” deport non-criminal illegal immigrants(is this an oxymoron?). The government “could” take away funding for allowing boys to participate in girls sports. Not going to mention tariffs, because I’ve already concluded based on my previous analysis, it’s a wash.
Some of this may have already happened or may turn out to be true. I do not know for sure, but I do question why some people on the left have actually been crying and arguing so much. When Biden was in office, there were many on the right that complained, although the extent of it wasn’t nearly as passionate. Maybe I need to learn from this, because I honestly don’t understand why someone would let this impact their health by worrying about everything that “could” happen.
I grew up in a lower middle class family. Father worked as a technician, TV repair man(back in the days of tubes) and had several vending machines around the town we lived in. My mom, stayed at home until I was of age to go to school. I had three older brothers already in school at the time. We walked ourselves to and from school everyday. We packed a salami/bologna sandwich and maybe another snack. Going out to eat was a major treat. Once a week we were lucky to have either McDonalds or eat at a smorgasbord. I wore my brothers’ clothes once they grew out of them. It was tough, although I don’t recall it being terrible. In fact, I was raised in a loving family with aunts, uncles, grandparents and more in the local area. While not perfect, I feel like things didn’t turn out so bad. We didn’t get government support. We worked hard. I had my first job at nine years old and have continued to work for the last 43 years. It was a lot harder back then, although, it didn’t seem like it. Sometimes you have to pull up your boot straps and just suck it up. Life is hard and it should be, it’s how we are molded into something better.
We have an enormous amount of debt as a country due to what appears to be overspending by our government and possibly fraud. As my lefty family members mentioned, this is all lies. They say that the debt doesn’t matter. They say they should continue to get everything the government has gifted them for years on end. They say all these things “could” happen. They asked me to protest with them. Why??? I protested in KY against the change in abortion laws, but that’s because I didn’t agree with it. It’s a woman’s body and it’s her choice. I may not like it, but who am I or who is the government to say what someone does to their body. As hard as it is for my income to squeeze tighter on the belt while putting one child through college and another in a private school without government support and making less than six figures I do not plan to protest.
Full disclosure: I voted for Trump in 2016, I did so because he was on TV. I was basically a political idiot. In 2017 I switched to independent because I got tired of the tweeting and the division between the left/right increasing even more, although it doesn’t seem as much as when Obama became president, IMO. I didn’t vote for Harris or Trump this time around. With that being said, I really have no say one way or the other. Therefore, I don’t have a worry one way or the other. I’m not going to let that impact my health. I’m going to keep reusing 1-gallon zip-lock baggies, packing a lunch, making meals at home and limiting the cash I spend on “Entertainment”. I still believe that some of the things this new government is doing will help in the long run. It’s gonna be hard for a few years. I’m ok with that, are you? Or would you rather push this onto the next generation? I surely don’t want to do that.
